Beach sessions on the Chesapeake Bay

Do you the love the beach as much as me? Do you dream about days on the beach, your toes in the sand, listening to the sounds of the water and the giggles from your kids playing. If you can't tell, I love the beach. One of my favorite memories as a kid was going to Ocean City for our summer vacations. The trip there seemed long, especially in the station wagon full of 5 kids, my parents and all our luggage...it was a ride to remember that's for sure. But once I got to the beach it was heaven. We would spend all day there, happy as could be.

The beach is a magical place for capturing family memories, with its natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere providing the perfect backdrop for stunning photographs. The golden glow of sunsets at the beach offers an array of lighting conditions that can enhance the warmth and joy of family portraits. Start by picking the right time of day, known as the “golden hours,” a sunset photo session captures the rich colors of the sky and the peacefulness of the end of the day. Any evening May through June you can book a mini beach session with me. The session is just 20 minutes, which is easy to squeeze in. The location is in Pasadena MD, right on the Chesapeake Bay. The cost is $150 and includes 10 downloadable images of your choice. And if you end up loving them all, you can add on the entire gallery. In order to book, you'll need to email Kate the best date for you. These sessions will be later,  and you may be worried, thinking "how will my kids react to a late session?". Kids love it!  They love the excitement of staying up late, going to play in the sand and water and maybe getting a treat for good behavior (wink wink). I've never had any complaints. 

When it comes to clothing, consider comfortable, coordinated outfits that complement the beach setting. Soft, neutral colors, like whites, beiges, and light pastels, tend to look great against the sand and water. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also go for beach-inspired themes with flowing dresses or casual, laid-back attire. Just make sure everyone is comfortable so you can focus on having fun during the shoot.

The best family photos at the beach often happen spontaneously. I encourage laughter, playful moments, and relaxed poses—perhaps a family walk along the shore, chasing each other in the surf (please plan on getting wet), or sitting together in the sand. The candid moments you capture often convey the most authentic emotions and bring the joy of family life to life in the photos.
